Practices Team Research Assistant
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Princeton, Whitaker was placed by Teach for America back in his hometown of Charlotte, NC, where he taught for four years at a Title I middle school and was named a Project LIFT ‘Irreplaceable Teacher’. While teaching at a racially and socioeconomically isolated school, Whitaker became interested to learn more about Charlotte's important historical role at the height of the desegregation movement as a city that had much success using busing as a tool to integrate its schools. He also spent a summer as a policy fellow in Dallas Independent School District researching racial and socioeconomic diversity at district magnet schools, while brainstorming policy solutions to address inequity of access along lines of race and class. Whitaker is a current student in the Education Policy and Management program at HGSE.
